For example the LifePak Express and
LifePak CR Plus has been designed for
environments where water might be splashed
on the unit. The units has been tested to
withstand the “splash” test as given in the
International Standard IEC529, IPX4. In this
test, the unit is sprayed with water from a
test fixture that looks much like a
showerhead. The standard specifies the rate
(10 liters/minute) at which water must be
sprayed on the unit.
During the test, the unit is sprayed
while the shower head and unit move so that
all surfaces of the unit are exposed to the
water spray. After this test, the unit is
checked to be sure that it remains fully
functional and meets all applicable safety
standards (per IEC601-2-4). The IEC defines
this level of protection as “Water splashed
against the enclosure from any direction
shall have no harmful effects.” In practical
terms, the test is roughly equivalent to a
heavy rainfall. The LifePak 1000 goes even
further it has and IPX rating of 55 meaning
it can withstand even greater water
pressures.
