Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitors
|
NICE Hypertension guideline CG127
updates and replaces NICE clinical
guideline 34 (published in June 2006). The NICE Press
Release can be viewed
here. A review of the key
features by PMS (Instruments) Ltd
of the guideline relating to blood pressure
measurement can be viewed
here.
NICE
are recommending that 24 hour ABPM should be
offered to
all
patients who have two clinic blood pressure
readings higher than 140/90 mmHg. When
using ABPM to confirm a diagnosis of
hypertension, ensure that at least two
measurements per hour are taken during the
person’s usual waking hours (for example,
between 08:00 and 22:00). Use the average value
of at least 14 measurements taken during the
person’s usual waking hours to confirm a
diagnosis of hypertension.
The full guidelines can be viewed on NICEs
website
here as well as a number of
supporting documents including quick reference
guides, clinical case studies, costing templates
and implementation advice.
