• Do I have to pay VAT on digital blood pressure monitors and carriage for home use?
  
  Yes.  The only medical and surgical appliances that can be zero-rated, are those that are designed solely for the relief of a severe abnormality or specific injury (as paragraph 4.2.1 Public Notice 701/7).  A blood pressure monitor does not fulfil these criteria since it can be used by anyone.
   
   VAT would be applicable on the cost of  postage and packing.  The rules on the VAT liability of postage and packing can be found in Public Notice 700/24 available from http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/
